job roles

One potential media job role is that of a director.

An director generally works in the film industry and are usually very creative. The short version of what they do is that they visualise the defining style and structure of the film itself and then try to make that image a reality. They also help the other departments with the casting, script editing, shot composition, shot selection and editing. And lastly serving as a link between production, technical and creative teams. To be a director you will need to be a strong and confident leader, good at making decisions and inspire and motivate the team. For this job you do not need any formal qualifications to be a director but there are training courses and reference books to help learning about it. To get this job you need to start of at the bottom as a runner.

Another potential media job is that of an editor.

An editor mostly works in the film industry but can work in TV. They work closely with the director to make sure the film is perfect before release. To be an editor you need to  have a wide experience of the post production process be familiar with a lot of editing equipment and have an imagination and an understanding of narrative. Once again similar to a director there isn't really a specific qualification although film production is advised. Once again to get this job you will have to start off as a runner and work your way up.

Another potential media job role is an audio engineer who work with games.

Audio engineers are the people who create soundtracks for the games which includes the music, sound effect, character voices and effect noises. To be an audio engineer you need to posses aural skills and sense of timing, have a sense of fun and being able to think laterally and have a feel for the atmosphere of games. Once again no specific qualifications are needed but there are courses for it. A musical background is suggested.

Another potential media job is that of an agent who works within TV, radio and film.

An agent represents performers and creative team members and find work for those clients. To be an agent you must have brilliant social skills, be skilled in negotiation and persuasion and have patience and good listening skills. To be an agent you need industry experience. There is no specific way to get into this industry and job.
